Bess Langbein


For over a decade, Bess has led, built and grown organizations in the social impact sector. She specializes in business and strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, philanthropic advising, and organizational design and fundraising.

A founding partner of Due East Partners LLC, Bess recently served as Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) transforming the organization from a fledgling nonprofit to an established and recognized community leader. She led the effort to design and build organizational capacity and raised more than $17 million in new assets, unrestricted and legacy funds, as well as grantmaking, capacity building and program dollars for the foundation.

Bess has diverse experience as a management professional serving non-profits, foundations and political candidates. Before joining CFAAC, Bess served as an associate for Horizon Philanthropic Services where she specialized in capital campaign design and execution, major donor development, grant writing and event planning. Among her projects, Bess served as the campaign manager on a $4.8M capital campaign for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

Before joining Horizon Philanthropic Services, Bess worked in political campaign management and fundraising for various candidates in Maryland, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

Bess received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002 and an MBA in the executive program at the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in 2012.

Bess lives in Annapolis, MD with her husband, Eric, and two children.
